I am playing in a little mini tour event in Phoenix this week. It started bright and early this morning, but it didn't start out well for me. Smoked a driver down the middle of the fairway on the first hole, only to notice that the water was in play. Ouch! I finished with a 75 after four bogeys and one little birdie. The tee shots went really well and I felt comfortable on the greens, even though the score didn't reflect that. I rolled the putts really well, but they snuck just past the hole on most occasions. It was my iron play that was the problem... The good news is that I've used up all my thin, fat and crooked shots now and the solid ones are ready to come to play tomorrow!
It's always hard to play the first tournament of the year. I have been in "range mode" for the last few months and going from that to the golf course is tricky. My focus and on-course thinking improved as the round went by and I'm exciting to continue this process tomorrow!
