My name is Karin and I’m a Swedish golfer who travels around the world playing golf on the LGPA Tour. Being a professional golfer isn’t nearly as glamorous as one might think, but I love it and couldn’t imagine doing anything else for a living. I’m still hesitant to call playing golf a “job” though. Growing up, that word was associated with boring things that one “had to do”. I don’t have to play golf, but it is what I chose to do every day!

My Mom, Gunilla, was the one introducing my brother and me to the game when we were around 10. I also played soccer and tennis and didn’t really start taking golf seriously until a few years later. It seems like a lot of female players have older brothers that gave us good competition growing up, and that is definitely true for me as well. Klas is a year older than me and we played soccer and golf whenever we could during our childhood. I soon realized that I couldn’t beat him at soccer, so I focused on golf and that turned out to be a good move! My Mom claims that her idea was for us all to have a nice family hobby so that we could spend a few hours each weekend playing golf together. I quickly ruined that utopia by playing junior and amateur events most weeks and never having the time to play with Mom and Klas…

Thanks to The Swedish National Team I was able to play tournaments all over the world and in 2000 we went to Tennessee to play in a college event. That’s when I first started thinking about going to school over here. After doing some research I realized that Oklahoma State provided everything I was looking for – GREAT practice facilities, knowledgeable coaches and other Swedes on the men’s and women’s teams to turn to for advice. It turned out to be a great decision and the fact that I’m still living in Stillwater should be proof enough for how much I like it here!

I qualified for the LPGA Tour on my first attempt and will start my 6th year on Tour in 2011. I’m working hard on turning my deficiencies into strengths and can’t wait to see the hard work pay off in the future!
